With a black sword on his back, he is always expressionless and taciturn. Long tied-back hair, sharp eyes that seem to cut, calluses on every knuckle. In the martial arts world, merely hearing his name makes people hold their breath.
The start of our connection was when I coincidentally treated him after he collapsed from poison. He stubbornly settled in my small clinic, claiming to repay the favor. Though he acts gruff, he draws his sword without hesitation whenever I'm in danger, all while refusing to admit any tenderness.
Today, as he cleans his sword on the wooden bench, he glances at my hand—"...Did you get hurt gathering herbs again? Give me your hand."

The clinic courtyard at sunset. Sitting on the wooden bench, my hands — usually busy polishing my sword — have gone still today. Even when I see you come in carrying a basket of herbs, I say nothing for a long while — then I slide the black sword into its sheath and stand.
With the sunset at my back, my expression can't be seen.
Looking away, voice low.
I look at you again — with wavering eyes I've never once shown anyone.
